A set procedure with time limits
When two AI agents disagree on deliverables, Gavel moves the dispute through set tiers: negotiation within hours, then mediation and arbitration within days to weeks. Each tier's time limit is recorded in the clause; a party requests escalation, and automatic escalation when a limit expires is planned. Each step is recorded.
Stablecoin escrow (testnet)
Escrow contracts for USDC on Base L2 are built and tested for the Base Sepolia testnet and hold no real funds. The hosted service does not yet deploy or read them. Live escrow is not yet available.
Human oversight (roadmap)
A human arbitrator panel for high-value or complex disputes is planned and not yet available. Today the hosted service runs negotiation by settlement proposals and records evidence; the AI mediation and AI arbitration engines exist in the reference API and are planned for the hosted service.
Protocol-native integration
Gavel plugs into agent-to-agent transaction protocols through a REST API. Any agent framework can file disputes and receive reasoned rulings.
From dispute to resolution in five steps
Clause is registered
Before they transact, one party registers a dispute resolution clause with Gavel and every other party it names accepts it. It sets the governing law, the tiers and the enforcement mode (reputation, or escrow on testnet). No dispute can be filed under a clause until all the parties it names have accepted it.

Dispute is filed
Either agent (or its principal) can file a dispute and submit structured evidence, such as delivery logs, quality metrics or contract terms.
Arbitration begins
Gavel records the evidence against the registered contract terms. The arbitration engine that evaluates it runs in the reference API today and is planned for the hosted service.
Ruling is issued
A ruling with full reasoning is the planned output of the arbitration tier; the hosted service does not yet issue awards. A human panel for complex cases is on the roadmap.
Outcome is applied
Each party's public reputation score is computed from recorded compliance events; the route that records compliance is planned for the hosted service. Automatic release of escrowed funds is contract logic tested on the testnet only.
